Citation Options

This website is for COOPERTOWN MUNICIPAL COURT ONLY! If you received a citation from another agency, contact that agency for payment options.

You have three options regarding your citation: 
 PLEASE READ ALL OPTIONS CAREFULLY,  BEFORE PAYING!

1.     ATTEND COURT - You may attend court on your assigned court date and time if you'd like to contest your citation.


 IF YOU ARE A MINOR, OR IF THE OFFICER INDICATED ON YOUR CITATION YOU MUST APPEAR, then you must appear in court. You are not eligible for Options 2 or 3.


  • The Judge will hear your case and enter a judgment.
  • Payment is due upon completion of your court appearance.

2.   PAY CITATION - You can choose to pay your citation prior to court.


  • Pay FINE(S) + COURT COSTS.
  • The total is due on or before your court date.
  • You do not have to attend court.
  • The citation will be reported to the state and points will be added to your motor vehicle record.

 DO NOT PAY  under this tab if you are planning to take defensive driving school (DDS)! Please see below for that option.

3.  DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL (DDS)- You can choose to attend defensive driving school. (See link below for assistance in choosing a class.) CDL LICENSE HOLDERS ARE NOT ELIGIBLE FOR DEFENSIVE DRIVING SCHOOL.

 

  • Pay COURT COSTS only.
  • The total is due on or before your court date.
  • You do not have to attend court.
  • The citation will not be reported to the state and no points will be added to your motor vehicle record.


  • CLICK HERE for a list of Tennessee Department of Safety-Approved Defensive Driving Schools. You can choose a class from this list, or you can use any internet search engine to search for Tennessee four-hour defensive driving schools and choose one from there.
  • The Certificate of Completion for completing defensive driving school is due to the court by the last day of the month in which your court date falls. Certificates can be e-mailed to courtclerk@coopertowntn.org



PLEASE NOTE: Only moving violations are eligible for defensive driving school. If you have multiple violations on your citation which include non-moving violations such as financial responsibility, registration, driver license, light law, window tint, etc., those violations will need to be addressed either by providing proof of compliance or paying the fine for those violations.

Other Payment Options:

BY MAIL: You may pay your citation prior to your court date with money order or cashier's check mailed to the Coopertown Court Clerk's Office, 5153 Burgess Gower Road, Springfield, TN 37172.  WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL OR THIRD-PARTY CHECKS.


IN PERSON: The Court Clerk's office is open Monday - Thursday 7:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and accepts cash, money order, or cashier's check. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PERSONAL OR THIRD-PARTY CHECKS.


Failure to pay your citation prior to your court date or appear in court on your designated court date will result in a separate offense of Contempt of Court which carries an additional $50 fine and possible suspension of your driver's license in your home state.
