I am pleased to announce that we have received a response from the United States Postal Service regarding our request for a ZIP code.

The postal service has acknowledged our need for changes and with the use of technology they have made a change that allows Coopertown to acknowledge its town identity while eliminating inconvenience to citizens.

You now have a choice of using Coopertown or your existing neighboring town as the town in your mailing address. The Postal system will recognize both your existing town related to your ZIP code such as "Pleasant View" as well as "Coopertown" as your designated town using the same existing assigned ZIP code and there is no mandate, or a required date you have to make a change. You can even leave certain vendors such as banks and government lists such as social security alone and change others such as Wal Mart or Amazon (although those delivery services may begin changing automatically).

This change has been operational for about a month, without any major disruptions caused specific to this change. You may begin noticing some of your mail and or deliveries will begin using Coopertown automatically in the delivery address as the change filters through out databases. You may notice that if you are asked to verify your address on online platforms, the preferred address in many databases may become Coopertown. This will help ensure proper delivery and taxation locations. You can check out your address verification at https://tools.usps.com/zip-code-lookup.htm?byaddress

The way the Postal Service made their changes you do not need to change anything if you choose not to. Further, they have "fenced" Coopertown as its own distinct town in the database while utilizing the existing four ZIP codes, thus using technology to eliminate any disruptions in existing delivery, the need for a post office in Coopertown, no disruption to emergency and government services and no inconvenience to you.

While this is not a single ZIP code change as I had requested, I think this is a great alternative with technology for our town to have its own identity with its existing four ZIP codes, solve tax issues and eliminate citizen burden of the change.

Again, you don't have to do anything if you choose not to, however it is encouraged as you do live in Coopertown, but you will notice some automatic changes by the Postal system and delivery databases that are not disruptive to you.

Again, emergency services do not change, and your address will be recognized with either town as your street address and ZIP code do not change.

lot cleanup pertaining to property maintenance violations. Email your qualifications to

"Downed" LIMB PICK-UP -

Each spring and fall, the Town does a downed limb pickup. This is designed to pick up those limbs brought down by storms.

As a reminder, our Street Department personnel are only able to pick up downed limbs (NO TREES) that are placed neatly along the front of property, along the road. DO NOT place limbs into the roadway.

Also, PLEASE DO NOT place large tree trunks/bases on the side of the road for pickup. Our Street Department will NOT pick up any large trees placed by the side of the road. Only downed limbs.

�� Reminder for Fall Limb/Brush Pick up: If it Rains on the day of pick-up, the Street Department will pickup the following day��

�� No Metal or Nails in the wood��

Please try to have all of the "tops" in one direction to help our Street Department clean up as safely and quickly as possible.

If you would like to be added to the list on a specific date/dates for guaranteed ✅ pick up, call City Hall and let us know which Wednesday date works for you! (Please try to have your call in the day before, before noon��)

The Coopertown Events Committee Board is always looking for volunteers!

If you're passionate about our community and would like to help with events, please contact City Hall.

What it is:

Events Committee Board - all volunteer board that picks a chairperson, co-chair, secretary, and treasurer. This Board is part of the town and as a result there is one Alderman who attends meetings to represent the Board of Mayor and Aldermen. "Bringing people together, one event at a time"

The Barrel Festival is a separate board that at a minimum should have seven members. Similar to The Community Development Board, members pick a chairperson, co-chair, secretary, and treasurer. Also, the Barrel Festival has in the past had a volunteer in charge of sponsorships, marketing, food trucks, vendors, music, and the 5-mile race.

TAX COLLECTION PERIOD – This is simply when we can receive payments for the current tax year.

ORANGE:

IMPORTANT NOTE – If your taxes are paid by your mortgage company we suggest you check with your mortgage company to make sure they are aware you have CITY & COUNTY property taxes. This is especially important if you have REFINANCED.

Most mortgage companies send us your payments around the end of DECEMBER. If you would like to confirm that your mortgage company has paid, we suggest checking our online payment portal around mid-January.

From October 15 through May 15 anyone starting an open-air fire within 500 feet of a forest, grassland or woodland must secure a burn permit from the Tennessee Division of Forestry.

Permits are not required for burning in containers such as a metal barrel with a ½” mesh screen cover.
